ok - so heres the issue. I recently sold my mark 4 accord type V to move to a mark 5 CDTi exec tourer. When I bought it (1 week ago) it had 123k & (just about ) FHSH. I noticed a chain rattle when I checked it out but thought nothing nothing of it - I know chains can get rattley in higher mileage cars. I spoke to one of the dealers yesterday who had previously serviced the car - just to see if there were any service notes I needed to be aware of - nothing noted that I need to look out for. I asked him how I could quieten the chain down and he told me there is a TSB from the end of oct 08 detailing a warranty extension on the cdti to 6years & 125k to cover timing chain failure (!!!!!!!). Seemingly the chain can pick up any crud in the oil and wear and then fail. This is my worry - the car has been fully serviced by Honda up to 101k. It then appears to have missed a service at around 115k (although the small dealer I bought from gave it a light service including a fresh belly full of semi synth 10/40 & a Honda approved Motorquip filter at 123k). The car now has 123.4k (just within the 125k warranty extension). The Honda TSB fix seems to be a new chain, tensioner & oil pump - a big engine out job I understand - but much cheaper than a new engine. How much support am I likely to expect from Honda as I cannot find evidence of the "missing service at 115k?) How many services can be missed before warranties become void? I've had Honda's for years and have always trusted them implicitly - this is the first time I've ever been worried about their reliability.
