AIR CONDITIONING FAULT

AIR CONDITIONING FAULT

Postby Honda750 on Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:09 am

My 2005 CRV is just one day outside the three year guanantee (taken from date of registration not delivery some two weeks later). The Air conditioning/climate control light started flashing. I contacted my main honda agent, they advised me that this is a known fault but honda will only repair it if reported within the three years from registration (not delivery). I have contacted Honda UK and they are considering my appeal. I will let you know. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I took my CRV to a local garage, they checked the A/C and found the coolant level was low, they attempted to recharge it but found that the compressor would not start and the green flashing light continued. I then took the car to the main Honda agent they analysed the car (I noticed that there was an official Honda Bulleten in which the problem was recognised attached to the papers). The fault is caused by a faulty control unit which cost £440! Honda UK agreed to pay for the parts, but I have to pay labour because my vehichle was two days outside guarantee. Fortunatly the part is easy to fit and will cost me about £40. So Honda do recognise that the flashing air conditioning light is a symptom of failure of the climate control control unit on this type and year of manufacturer of CRV. It is somewhat anoying that the Agent will not come clean about a known problem, they were obviously reluctant to tell me it is a recognised and documented fault. In the USA I believe Honda make their service bulleten's freely available.

I had exactly the same fault on my wife's 2005 CR-V, 1 month out of warranty. I took it to my main dealer, they charged me 1/4 hour labour to diagnose the fault and Honda agreed to pay for the part (£490) if I paid for the labour (1/2 hour)to fit it.

They did this with no problems, the car is 1 owner with full main dealer service history.

Hope this helps.

The green flashing light thing has happened to me twice. The first time the dealer told me it was a switch fault - which I assume they replaced under warranty. The second time, something was re-set on the instructions of the lap-top but they never did seem to know exactly what caused it. I had other faults on this vehicle too - see http://hondacr-v.webs.com/

I've never encountered this fault. It seems that the Honda warranty service is too badly now. They definitely offer a good service and the customer don't paid too much because of the warranty.
