I have a Accord 2.2 diesel ex which I use as a taxi. Its got 131K miles on it and the other day it started making a noise from engine like a failed alternator bearing. Not being a mechanic I took it to a local garage that I've used before, He stripped it down and said a spring loaded tensioner wheel was gone and replaced it ( Wheel was £278). Ran it for 1 hour and the same noise came back, then when I started the car the next morning the battery light came on, so I took it back and told him the alternator has obviously gone. He tells me the tensioner wheel which he replaced will have caused this in the 1st place with some spring not releasing properly or something??
Can anyone tell me if this would be the case as I've never heard of this before?? Worried I've just spent a pointless £278 on a wheel that didn't need replacing.
