calling all owners of uk spec '09 CR-v's

I've been the satisfied owner of Cr-V's now over the last 7 years but now I've got a problem with my latest one which is the 2.2 deisel. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

The problem is a noise, almost exclusively between 1500 and 2000 rpm and when under load. In fact the greater the load, the louder the noise. My dealer it is suggesting is an induction noise i.e. the air intake for the engine. It's not really a roaring noise, more like a rushing noise. For those a bit longer in the tooth (like me!) it's very similar to the noise you could experience on very high mileage rear wheel drive vehicles from the rear axle; only it's coming from the front. The noise seems to be travelling up the gear lever. I've been experiencing it since I had 500 miles on the clock but then I did pussyfoot the engine for those first 500 miles so wouldn't have experienced it before then.

When driving solo it's only there when accelerating reasonable hard but when towing it's very annoying. It's right in the rev range that seems to be used nearly all the time and it's always under load.

My dealer acknowledges that there is a noise but tells me there is no other cases known to Honda and is reluctant to just start slapping new bits on without knowing the cause. He's having it back in next week for more investigation but I'd like to know if the problem is unique to my vehicle or not. I have already had a test drive in a similar vehicle with 15000 miles on the clock which didn't have the noise.

Any comments or info would be gratefully received.

Can't really help, I am afraid, but if the other car you drove didn't make the noise, then your one shouldn't. The dealer should be able to drive another diesel and see that it doesn't make the noise. That should tell him that something is wrong with yours. He should therefore put it right as it is under warranty.
You may be able to put up with the noise as it is, but the risk is that something isn't right and you can almost be certain that you won't find out what until the warranty is out!
I noticed a big change with my Honda dealer about a year ago. Previously they changed all sorts of parts under warranty. More recently they would tell me that the problems were within acceptable limits. Now the warranty is over and they tell me it needs new brake discs and pads all round, along with new bushes on the anti roll bar and yet another oil flush and change for the rear diff. Needless to say I have started doing the maintenance on the CR-V myself!

Hi Nick, thanks for the reply. You echo my sentiments entirely. The other cr-v I test drove was actually one that was for sale on my dealers forecourt! I requested a drive and took the the service manager with me. He had to agree with what I was saying but wanted time to consult with Honda. I think it's time up and my car's booked in on the 9th.
