Clutch life

Postby v8mini on Sat Dec 19, 2009 11:11 am

Anyone got an idea of clutch life for a 2.2cdti FRV.
Ours has started to slip, mostly noticeable in 3-4 going up hill, milage is only 42,000 which I think is a bit low for clutch replacement. Or is there a way to adjust them

check the level in the clutch fluid reservoir, if its low clutch could be on its way out.

Fluid level is ok, but I would have expected that to have been checked at the last (overpriced) Honda service.
It has felt better recently, started feeling iffy just after we spent 3 hours covering 2 miles in a traffic jam on the M40, hope it was just a tempery effect from loads of clutch use in a short space of time.

I also have found clutch has started slipping. I'm not a hard driver (never in any other car I've had has this happened) but when heavily loaded and/or accelerating hard in 4th it starts to slip! started happening about 59,000 miles

I have the same problem @ 64,000 miles.
The slip occurs around 2000-4000 revs in 3rd or 4th gear. I read somewhere its a fairly common problem with this engine in other Hondas. Its something to do with the flywheel or clutch, or even the pedal adjustment.

I believe these have a dual mass flywheel which cause lots of problems on a lot of other cars. If you go to honda to have the clutch done I reckon they will tell you the dmf needs replacing. get ready with the ££££££'s.

I too get a slip and it can still do it despite a clutch change. I think it may be the dual mass flywheel adjusting as the turbo comes on full boost and the max torque. Not 100% sure though

Hi All,

Sorry to bring such an old thread back to life, but wanted to know how things ended here. Did you get the clutch fixed? How much was it?
I have mine in the shop right now, a diesel, with 103,000 miles on the clock. The garage is charging £220 for the clutch (Genuine Honda part), with about the same for labour. He is going to change the rear pads as well. Hope to get it back this evening. How long can I expect the clutch to last?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Some more info - Just been told that the fly-wheel must also be replaced - another £400 to be added. This is getting expensive... FWIW, Honda Dealer wanted £1000+ just to replace the fly-wheel, inc. (6 hours of) labour (!)
Oh, and the garage reckons that the clutch I am having replaced might be the original one. Which would mean that it needed replacing after 103k miles... Unbelievable!

Marky - you speak the truth!!
