Only just joined, hope you've sorted your proplem but if not try changing the oil in the 4WD rear differential dual pump clutch. The old oil has probably degraded prematurely - a known fault according to the Daily Telegraph Honest John website. Read the Honda CR-V II (2002 -2006) Car by Car breakdown at http://www.honestjohn.co.uk. Good luck!

The dealer replaced the diff oil on my '06 CR-V under warranty as they said that the diff was making a noise on full lock. Can't say that I had noticed. I got the impression that this was a Honda recommendation. Not sure if this means that I will have to replace the oil every 16,000 miles!

I had this as one of the many problems I had with my CR-V CDTi. Honda flushed out the rear dif and that seemed to solve the problem although they would not cover the cost under the extended warranty. It cost me £75. Whether the problem would have reoccurred again after a similar mileage I do not know. My vehicle had covered about 36,293 miles at the time.

Noisy rear diff is a commonish problem. Get it flushed out before it goes off pop.
