Has anyone else experienced this on their CR-V?
I've been wondering what the fumey smell coming into the passenger cabin has been since November 2008 (approx 42k miles at the time, now 60k). I told Honda at my April 2009 service but they said they'd checked the grommets around holes into the cabin and couldn't find any missing. This obviously didn't address the problem and it's got steadily worse.
Only when I recently visited a friend with a Kia diesel did he mention that the noise and the smell was as his Kia had been and that it was a gap around or at the bottom of where the diesel injectors seat. On removing the plastic engine cover we discovered a large amount of carbon deposits around the top of one of the injectors.
Before I have it seen to (or have a go it myself) I'd like to know:
- if anybody else has had this problem?
- is it a common problem on diesels and if so at the service shouldn't Honda check for things such as this?
- shouldn't a competent mechanic recognise the smell and think something other than a missing grommet might be the problem?
