FR-V Windscreen Wash

Postby Riskyluca on Thu Jul 01, 2010 3:25 pm

Hi there

My wife's FRV isn't spraying any windscreen wash on the front screen (rear still works fine). No sound of a motor running either when pressed so guess it's not simply a pipe come loose?

Presumably it's an electrical fault, and I immediately thought a fuse had gone, however, after consulting the manual there is no fuse designated for the windscreen wash, unless you have front light washers (which we don't - Sport version)?

Any help would be very much appreciated as I'm not keen putting it in the garage to pay some crazy labour charge for what I suspect is a straightforward job.

Cheers

Hiya Rich,
I've had a look in my book and its the same, no one fuse for the washers so it must be shared with something else.
Had a look on a wiring diagram and it looks like fuse box under the dash, fuse number 5, 30amp.
Most cars run either one or 2 motors for the washers. The honda uses 2 pumps one for the front and one for the rear.

You need to get to the plug on the pump and check to see if there is a voltage there when the front washers are operated. if there is the most likely cause will be a block motor valve, a block pipe or a failed one way valve.
Unfortunately you will have to take some of your car apart to get to the pump. I would start with your washer bottle down inside your n/s/f wheel arch, take out the arch guard inside your wheel arch and you should see your washer bottle.
Or if you don't want to get your hands dirty just take it to a trusted local garage to fix, you dont want to pay honda labour charges!

I had this when I took delivery of my 06 2.2 the other day. Turned out the pipe was kinked where the bonnet closed on it. Carefully closing the bonnet while watching the pipe went to the correct route solved the problem...
