FRV Diesel - Poor MPG

Postby patsyno1 on Sun Sep 05, 2010 3:41 pm

Hi All

A newbie to this forum, but I thought I would ask a question re MPG for the diesel.

We have 2005 2.2 CDTi Sport, and my wife does mainly urban town driving, she is getting around 32-34 MPG, even on long run I seem to get only 36MPG. The car tends to be max 4 adults, so no real load for a car like this.

Has anyone got any thoughts as to is this right ?... I have asked Honda Dealer in St Albans but they seem to think it is OK.

Anyone out there who could enlighten me as to what sort of MPG they are getting.

Thanks in advance

48 in winter on average and 52 in summer.
I drive mine carefully and use hypermiling techniques.

Thanks for this...it seems that only one other person this forum can identify with low 30's in town. anyhow, I have just purchased atuning chip, that should help the mpg a bit.

I'll keep you posted

Great patsyno1, looking forward to hearing how you get on with the 'chip'. I have a petrol FRV and currently get 27.2MPG, which is not so good! Fortunately, we also have a brand new VW FOX 1.2, so any journeys that dont involve all the kids are taken this way. Cheers. Jonny

Hi,

I have an 06 2.2 CTDI. My normal week is 80% slowish around town and 20% dual carriageway. I have been getting about 30-35mpg on that depending on whether I've been hooning it on the dual carriageway (or just checking the turbo still works  ).

Today I was on a fairly clear section of dual carriageway for a while so I set the car up at a particular speed using the GPS and then reset the trip to see what the car read as MPG after 5mins. I tried not to vary the speed although this wasn't always possible so this isn't scientific, but I'm going to try to do it more accurately another time.

I got (after 5 mins at each speed):
90mph - 29mpg
80mph - 37mpg
70mph - 48mpg
60mph - 57mpg
50mph - 55mpg

I was in 6th gear the whole time, with the windows shut but the A/C on - I'm fairly sure the A/C has a hit on the mileage.

My last car was a 96 Accord Aerodeck LSi which averaged 27mpg over the 100k I had it, and maxed out at 37mpg on long runs at 60mph. I'm quite looking forward to getting significantly better fuel economy!
