FRV from SA

Postby eben on Thu Jun 18, 2009 10:49 am

Hello,
not many FRV forums on the net but nice to find this one. It seems most people are quite happy with the FRV - here a least. I am from Gauteng - South Africa and I bought a 2008 FRV demo with 4500km for a good price (that's relative of course). The FRV currently only comes out in a petrol 1.8 here auto or manual. Windows tinted (stick on), mags and spots all standard. I don't like the seats to much but Honda will send it off to be changed to leather on request (and for a price of course). I think the 6 speed gearbox is a bit of an overkill on an 1.8 but it does bring the revs down on the highway. I'm quite happy with the car and I'm quite surprised with all the luxuary features the comes standard. Well, this is my car for the next 4 years at least and it's good to see some positive feedback - I think I made the right choice. Me, wife and the 2 kids go camping often so the FRV will come in very handy with all the space. I'm still going to put on a tow bar and buy a trailer so we will always have plenty realestate inside.
It seems to be seen as a "mommy car" so that's a bit annoying to daddy...

Nice one mate. Yup FR-V are few and far between.

I've had my car for a few weeks now, and i'm liking it more and more. I think it looks more like a dad wagon than a moms car.

Welcome, eben, hope you enjoy your stay with us

I am curious abut what you don't like about the seats - is it the covers, or something else? :?:

Well I don't like the plain shape of the seats and the material it's made of but that is probably to keep it practical for the person in the middle to get in and out accross the other seats. Must say I drove a Volvo a while back and I might have been spoiled with the soft leather. I will have to test the FRVs seats on the long road to see how comfy it is. What is nice is that fabric is not cold like leather in the winter morning or that hot when parked in the sun.
I saw a FRV with leather seats and door panels at the dealer. They sent it to an upholsterer on the buyer's request - it looked nice but the glue smell was terrible. Also on closer inspection I saw the seams was not done that well and I wonder if it will last as long as the original fabric. I'm always worried when stuff has to be refitted - it might not be bolted down correctly or clips that might have broken off inside door panels. You always find that kind of problems to late.

Well, I like the seats and the covers - very comfy on long motorway journeys, and when my son put his muddy shoes over the seats, my mood was less than pleasant! :o

However, a stiff brush cleaned the dried mud very easily, and I appreciated the fabric on a whole new level. :D
