Head unit removal

Postby FRV on Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:09 pm

My FR-V was in the workshop having the Parrot MKi9200 handsfree kit installed today. The guys had a Ferrari in the workshop having thousands pounds of ICE fitted, an Audi Q7, Porsche 911 Targa and an E Class Merc being worked on.
They hit a snag with the FR-V though as they couldn't get the head unit out!!! The heater control panel came out fine, and they unbolted the head unit from the bracket but it was stuck in there solid.

Any suggestions?

Should just be 2 bolts, then slide out and undo connectors

I have a Honda Workshop Manual on CD-Rom for a 2005/6 FR-V - that's where I got the picture mentioned above from. It does explain step by step how to remove the radio but it's not easy to pass on. It's all hyperlinked HTML so step 1 is "Remove the dashboard middle panel" which you click on to open detailed instructions in a separate HTML page. Step 2 is "Remove the cup-holder" which is another page. The cup-holder page then links to a page to remove the "Centre Lower Panel", so there's a lot of jumping around between different webpages to follow a job through the necessary steps.

If people are interested I could maybe upload a copy of the entire CD-Rom to rapidshare.

that would be very useful if you could - not just for this particular job.
