Hi there, need to pick a few expert brains if possible!
I just picked up a 1999 CR-V ES and it came with a remote keyfob which has a lock and unlock button and also a boot release button. It also has another keyfob with two buttons which also lock and unlock the doors. To start the car, once it is open, with the key in the ignition, I have to press one of the two buttons on the keyfob with the two buttons (not the one with the three buttons and boot release) and I hear a central locking type noise from the drivers door and then the engine will start when I turn the key.I assume this is an immobiliser, but is that normal?
I ask this because my main problem is that the alarm keeps going off at random times. It can even be left unlocked and go off and sometimes will go off over night, sometimes not.Sometimes it will sit for 10 hours and go off in the morning, sometimes not.I have no idea where to start but desperately need to shut it up.If I knew what I was doing, I would cut the siren box wires! I assume the siren box is standard fit?
I noticed sometimes, the drivers door button will not pop up.Could this be related? I also only have two black keys and no red one and the keys will not open the drivers door properly but will on the passenger door.
So, do all CR-V's have these two keyfobs and is that the way to start the car?
And any ideas re: the alarm.I don't mind simply taking the siren box off or disabling it for now somehow, but I assume this is nigh on impossible?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers
