Considering an FRV - have 3 kids - would you recommend it?

Postby duncan877 on Mon Aug 17, 2009 11:56 am

Hi All, I'm new to this forum and I'm guessing that I might get a slightly biased response to this question :D .

I have 3 kids. One is in a high-back booster seat, the other two are in forward facing seats. Our youngest has recently had to move up to a forward-facing seat and the result is that things are even tighter in our C-MAX (2.0 diesel Ghia) than they were before

We're trying to find the best car to replace the C-MAX with. Our ideal is to put the three kids in the second row (that is, no 3rd row of seats), plus enought boot space for pram and a tesco shop.

So guys ('n'gals) - if any of you have 3 kids, would you recommend the FRV? AND what is the best spec to go for?

Many thanks!

Hi, Duncan, welcome to the board

Now, this is what I call a challenge - how to recommend the FRV, without sounding biased!
Well, the way I see it, most of the new MPVs can accommodate three car seats in the middle row. The traditional 7-seaters will all do the job you seek, and the only real issues are whether you prefer to sacrifice your boot space for seats & if you are happy with putting passengers in the boot(!)

The advantage of the FRV is that you always have space for six passengers, and you always have a boot (which can take a pram and a weekly shop - that's coming from a five-person family, like yourself ;) )

Regarding the spec, I would always try and get the highest, with the most amount of toys as possible, depending on your budget, of course. The gadgets are what will keep you entertained, and make your driving life that much easier. I have the sat-nav, and have found it invaluable (not to mention convenient - no need to remember to charge or bring the sat-nav, and the security that a built-in stereo offers cannot be beat).

I have the diesel, which has a slightly lower top speed and acceleration compared to the 2.0 petrol, but I bought it for the efficiency anyway. Choose what you think is important - if you value speed, get the petrol. If you want value, then get the diesel.

I guess I have written too much, so I'll leave it for now. Feel free to ask any more. Good luck, take a test drive of all the cars, and let us know what you get. Enjoy.

Oh, by the way - if you're interested, if I hadn't bought the FRV, I would have bought a Ford SMAX

i looked at loads of cars when getting a family wagon - we have twin boys

the FR-V came out top everytime. doesn't have the biggest boot, but is the most practical MPV out there IMO

let us know what you decide

Im curious .... what did you get in the end ?

I regularly have 3 kids in the back, so when buying a new car a few months ago, this was a major factor for me as also wanted a big boot space. I went for an '06 CRV in the end and I love it. The boot space is perfect and kids have plenty of room in the back.
Cheers,

I have yet to try out the CRV - how similar or different is it compared to the FRV (aside from the extra seat!) It looks as though both cars share teh same floorplan, and they sure look like the same size. Anyone know? :?
