Are you sure this is not just the turbo noise of the diesel engine.
We have an FRV 2.2cdti and i remember someone posting about a whistling noise on acceleration which is a characteristic of the way the Honda turbo works. Unlike other turbos that only kick in at certain revs the Honda's is designed to give a far smoother boost across the rev range so i assume it runs a lot longer and you notice it at lower revs when the engine is running more quietly.

I have an FRv- 2.2 CDTi same angine not sure about transmission but mine has been in to Honda twice in two seperate dealers and both have said that it is not out of the ordinary.

I have noticed that the whining noise (yes, I have it on my diesel FR-v, too!) happens when the weather is cold. Once the engine if warm, it is barely noticeable.
