Time to change

Postby Jok on Sun Sep 13, 2009 4:29 pm

Hi all,
I'm new to this board after having stumbled across it earlier today. I've had my FR-V for just over 3 years now and looking to change soon. Local Honda dealer doesn't have any used FR-V's in at the moment and says they are rare, and don't hang around long, so hoping this will mean I get a decent price for mine when the time comes.
I've only had a price from a non-Honda dealer so far and wasn't particularly impressed. Has anyone either traded in or sold privately recently ? if so, how did what you got compare to 'book' ?
My car is a 2005 (55) Sport (diesel) with 39k miles, full Honda service history, 12.5 months MOT, and loads of extras (privacy glass, leather, detachable towbar, parking sensors, ipod controller) - any idea what I should expect to get for it at the moment ?

that's a well specc'd car you have there. i would sell privately or go to a honda main dealer for a price. Non-franchised dealers will only give rock bottom price, and the FR-V is in demand so you should get got dosh for yours. let us know how u get on

Thats a great spec car with good miles, you should sell it privately and get top dollar for it as they are few and far between especially a diesel!
I would expect some where between £8 and £9k if not a touch more.
Have a look on autotrader, I could not find a diesel with less than 40k for less then 10k, all at dealers though.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Just for comparison, I paid about £7000 for a similar aged and spec FRV - but the mileage was just over 85K. I'd say you might be able to sell it for around £9000. Good luck in selling it - do you mind telling us your reasons for selling it and what you are considering to replace it?

Maybe the price I got earlier wasn't too bad after all. It was a Skoda dealer and he offered me £8500 after making a phone call to whoever he was going to 'trade' it on to.
Looking on Autotrader I see a few similar cars (here, here & here) - same age, with slightly less miles, but not the same amount of extras and priced between £10,750 and £12,000. Whoever buys these will presumably get something off that, and a warranty of some sort, so I suppose I could realistically expect £8,500 - £9,000 and hope for £9,500 - £10,000.
I'm only changing because I've had it over 3 years now, and I usually only keep my cars for 2 years or so. Part of the reason for the delay is that I simply don't know what I want to replace it with. I was at the Skoda dealer hoping to see and test drive an Octavia VRS Estate, but they didn't have any. I've considered lot's of other cars - Lexus is220, Volvo V50, VW Golf etc but always seem to find a reason to go off them. My wife would like another FR-V but finding one as good as we have , but newer, and for a reasonable price seems to be mission impossible.

Must admit I am considering a change for the same reason as you - had it three years and this is somewhat of a record for me. Considering something sportier and more of a coupe. Not much choice in the sporty diesely market for the money I want so spend. Love a BM or IS220d but cant stretch to that. Quite like a Brera too but Mrs says not alowed to buy Itallian (No ferraris then). V interested in your offer. Mine is quite battle worn if I can get anywhere near 8500 I would be chuffed!

Cheers
