Hello new here and need help!

Postby L66TTY on Sat Nov 21, 2009 4:37 pm

Hi My husband and I just got a 55 2.2 CDTi we love it!

However when we hitched up the trailer this weekend it blew the rear lights!

Our question is do you think if we put in a bigger fuse say 15 instead of 10 would it be OK or will we cause a fire!!!??

Husband thinks its something wrong in wiring of towbar but seems a bit odd if the previous owner had a tow bar and electrics fitted but never noticed?!

Oh and how long did it take you all to get used to the hand break as I have to use it to park on a hill every day I should have it cracked in a week or 2 but its very odd at first.

A bigger fuse won't help if it worked fine before unless you have changed to stronger lamps that draws more current than before. It's probably shorting out somewhere so the blown fuse means something is wrong.

I would expect it to be the trailer wiring. Needs to be checked by someone who knows what they are doing and NEVER replace a fuse with an higher amp fuse.
As a check, have you got access to another trailer or light board? If you do at least you can confirm if its the trailer or the car.

Mark.
