My FRV is doing the same - alarm goes off in the middle of the night. I Googled it and it seems it is a common problem, made worse by cold weather. I am going to book my car in and see what happens - it's still under warranty.

Hi Guys,
I've looked into this as this is becoming a bit of a problem.
For test purposes you set your alarm without the ultrasonics, the alarm will still be active but at least it narrows down the problem.
If you would like to turn to page 168 in the owners handbook it says:

"You can set the security system without activating the ultrasonic sensor. Remove the ignition key, push the lock tab in the drivers door open, then close the door. The security system indicator on the instrument panel comes on for 3 seconds, then starts blinking".

"Even if the ultrasonic sensor is activated or not,the secuirty system can be reset by only the remote transmitter, not the key.

I've also read on the net :?: that if you unplug the bonnent pin switch the alarm system will not set, the switch is built into the bonnent catch. I have not tried this and not sure if its true, you could always try it!

Hope this helps some of you with cold weather alarm problems.

Mark.

Interesting point Marky, I had tried this but it doesn't seem to work on my car - you can't really 'push in' the lock tab when my drivers door is open because its 'in' already! I've tried pushing it anyway and then closing the door but nothing at all happens i.e. none of the doors lock and none of the lights flash. Hmmm. It also says in the handbook that you can lock ALL the doors from inside by moving the drivers door lock tab to the locked position, but again this does not work on my car - doing this locks the drivers door only, but not the others. So maybe my drivers door has a problem communicating with the other doors....?!! Whatever, it seems that I am unable to set the security system without the ultrasonic sensors also being set (unless I'm being very stupid and missing something obvious?).

I thought all FRVs come with central locking i.e. the driver's side door locks/unlocks all the other doors (but the front passenger door does not lock all the doors - much to the annoyance of my wife!)

If your driver's door does not control all the other doors, then I'd guess that would be a good place to start and get some one to take a look at it.

Oh its got central locking OK, there just seems to be a problem with the drivers door lock tab! All doors lock ok when I use the key to lock the drivers door, which is how it should be, however if I try locking the drivers door using the lock tab on the drivers door (either by 'pushing in' the locktab and staying inside the vehicle, or by pulling the external door handle, then pulling the lock tab into the lock position, then releasing the external door handle and closing the door as described in the handbook), then only the drivers door locks, not any of the others. Seems like I've got a naughty lock tab on the drivers door.

Having said all that, I'm not really too concerned about this apparent lock problem, because everything locks ok when using the electronic key fob which is what I normally do. The real annoyance is that it deprives me of a way of isolating the ultrasonic alarm sensors, in order to see if they were causing the occasional false alarms.

Ok, so I took my car in to the local dealer. They said that the interior sensors were too sensitive and the ultrasonics kit had to be replaced. They had to order in the part and advised me while waiting for the part to lock the car with the driver's door lock tab which alarms the outside only as has been advised on this post.

I thought my interior door lock wasn't working, as it wouldn't push in, but I realise I have to open the drivers door first and then keep holding the interior door handle in the open position while flipping the door lock tab.

It's the first night back with its new ultrasonics kit, so I have locked it with the key fob as usual and so far so good, no alarm going off...

Hi all, just thought I'd add an update to this post, on my occasional false alarms. As described earlier I seem to be unable to disable the ultrasonics via the drivers door lock tab process (!) so I decided to simply cover the 2 ultrasonic sensors with black electrical tape. (Sounds messy, but if you do it neatly nobody will notice - my family used the car for a couple of weeks without noticing until I drew it to their attention!).

Anyway, I've had no false alarms since then, which doesn't necessarily prove that the ultrasonics are the cause, but its a good indication....

I'll add another update in due course, just for the record.....

Doofla, have you had any false alarms since the ultrasonics were replaced? And do you have a price?

Very useful info, hope we don't have this problem with our new FR-V. Very helpful to share experiences and tips on an issue like this.
