Well, my wife doesn't drive the thing, but as a passenger and mother hen, she loves the fact that we don't place any kids in the boot. The middle seat is perfect for kids in need of any special attention, and when they don't, the extra space is useful and doesn't clutter up her side of the car. The seats are comfy, and offer her plenty of room (she is a wee thing), and she can reach all the stereo controls easily.

Her only complaints are that her door lock isn't central locking (only the driver's lock will open/close all teh doors) and that her window is locked when the rear windows are locked (I suspect, however, that both these issues are due to Honda being over-cautious in case children are sitting in the front)

I am keen to hear your initial thoughts of the car, especially as a pre-FRV owner. What do you think of it? What are your concerns (other than mpg and the hand brake?) What other MPVs did you consider? What car are you coming from, and why are you looking to change?

I really like the car. I've sat in a few, but still yet to drive it. Not expecting any issues with it.
Main concerns other than fuel econ are whether the wife will be able to drive it. She is a petit thing too! Also, having an auto in my current car, will i be able to live with a manual.

I considered VW Touran and Toyota Verso as main contenders. VWs have too many reliability issues, so disounted it. The verso was good, but lacked lef room for the driver - i'm 6'4". The verso in my opinion is cheaper than a FR-V like for like, but does come better specc'd.

I own a mercedes c280 sport at the moment. we've had twins, so no room for anyone to squeeze between the kidd seats in the back, hence the change, plus the need to carry massive amount of stuff even for the shortest journey.

Congratulations on the twins - sounds like you will have a busy time on your hands :D
I reckon you might be disappointed with the performance coming from the c280, but hopefully the practical advantages of the FRV will compensate for that! Anyway, good luck, and let us know how the test drive goes.

Actually, now I come to think of it, there is something you could check - the rear windows' rubber seals at the top seem to have been pushed in by the window, and they know ever-so-slightly struggle when I open them. You could check the window seals of the FRV you are going to see, check if the same thing has happened. It is very minor, and insignificant, but I'm curious to see if it happens elsewhere.

To add to my confusion, i've seen one locally advertised at a carsupermarket that is a 2005 2.0 sport, has sunroof and parking sensors and is up at 8k but has 40k miles

decisions decisions...my usual reaction is to avoid car supermarkets, but the price and spec is tempting

Sounds very, very tempting! Cheaper price, AND better spec!!

I am not a mechanic, but I would doubt the milage makes any diffence - high milage at the begining of a car's life isn't usually something to be worried about. I know which one I would go for, but it's your money!

Test drive both of them, I guess, and see the history of both vehicles. See if you can notice any diffence in the engine's noise & running whilst driving and checking the gears.

Tough choice, good luck!!

Thanks - that's reassuring. Planning on seeing the better spec'd one tonight. It is the front runner at the moment.

Mrs loves it! She thinks its the best car we're ever had. She can't park it in smaller spaces but I don't think that's a problem with the car to be honest  . She now uses it more than me as her daily driver.

Good luck with yours + best of luck with the little ones too!

Thanks for the good wishes - FRV owners are such lovely folk!

Unfortunately, i missed out on the better spec'd FRV. So now its about the weighting game to see what comes up.

What a shame - well, at least you know it was a good deal!

Don't worry, something will come up, as you say, it's just a waiting game now ;)
