What's your best MPG?

Postby sohell on Sun Jun 28, 2009 8:44 am

I managed 45.3 mpg yesterday on the M4. Diesel engine, travelling at 60mph in 6th gear. Took a while to get home, but the economy made up for it!!

I dont know if people are aware of this, but if you reset the trip it also resets the mpg, so i did that whilst driving and it said i got 42mpg on a 1.7!

I reset mine and I have had over 50 in mi 2.2. I was so chuffed took a pic. See if I can find it...

That was not on a motorway! It was on an A road over a 20 mile journey (reset at start of trip). I reset it on the M4 last week when I was doing 60 - 65 and it stuck at around 55.

Notmally average 42 - 44 though

Cheers

I have managed to get 47mpg in my 2006 40k miles 2.2iCDTi FRV Sport, and sometimes peak at 50mpg in good weather. I add Millers to the fuel. I buy from Sainsburys, and I think it makes the engine drive better. Is it possible to fit performance air filters on this car? K & N don't do one for this engine. Has anyone fitted a Tunit tuning kit to improve MPG?
I tow a caravan with it. Economy drops to 27mpg @ 60mph! Can you get self levelling shock absorbers for the rear.

Sad to hear Japan is scrapping production of this car. I love it, although my 14 year old girl would like the middle seat to be reclining. Come to think of it, could the seats not be a bit softer. My bumb goes numb after a long journey.

Could someone not persuade Honda Japan to switch production to Britain or India (to suite their larger passenger carrying numbers, and keep costs down).

Anyone know of a good soundproofing kit cut cut road noise; especially from the rear.

I just bought a 2006 2.2iCTDi (with 100,000 miles on the clock) last week and got 56.4mpg driving from Portsmouth to Rochester via A3, M25,M26,M20. What I have found out is that if you shift up early and stick to 60mph (wherever possible) and only use the accelerator lightly when going downhill you use considerably less fuel. Shifting down to fifth for long inclines also helps - so long as you keep it at a steady 60 mph. No hard acceleration and good anticipation of traffic conditions (which reduces the need for heavy braking) will also help you acive very respectable figures. :ugeek:

Hi, DhimanDriver, welcome to the forum. Thanks for the tip, that's a very impressive MPG! My FRV is getting close to 100K as well, but still feels as tight as a drum. How are you finding yours?
