Reverse beeper broken

Postby Jamarqui on Thu Mar 18, 2010 5:35 pm

Hi, I have a 2007 diesel FR-V, when it is in reverse, the alarm no longer beeps, it just stays on one long continuous beep.

Has anyone experienced this? I presume it is just a faulty relay but I can't locate it. If anyone has a wiring diagram, can you please let me know where the relay should be?

Thanks

I'm guessing the continuous tone is a lower pitch than the normal tone - if so, then that is an error tone. If you let me know your e-mail address I can send you a pdf copy of the installation instructions which show you where each of the components should be located - there is also a short section on 'self-diagnostics.
I'm not sure how much trouble-shooting you'll be able to do as the user manual for mine says that after an error has occured the unit must be reset by a Honda dealer.

Hi, thanks very much for the reply. the email address is jamarqui@gmail.com

Yes, it is the lower tone from what I can make out. If it is the error tone, do you think that if I disconnect the battery overnight, it might reset the computer enough to wipe the error code?

Thanks again

Installation manual sent.

As regards disconnecting the battery, I've honestly no idea. The sensors on mine developed exactly the same fault last week - that's why I have the installation manual to hand. A local mechanic is going to have a look at mine in the next few days just to check there is no broken wire, connection unplugged, bad earth etc. I have an hours drive to my nearest Honda dealer so don't fancy that, and the resulting mega-bucks bill, if it's just a minor fault.

If you try disconnecting your battery in the meantime, let me know if it makes any difference.

Hi Jok, I tried the battery disconnection, but no luck. I'm pretty sure I also have faulty reverse sensors. The beep is constant and sounds like an error tone, it goes off as soon as the clutch is engaged even whilst still in reverse. Its in for a service soon so I will probably get them to sort it out then.

Hi Jamarqui,
Did you get your reversing sensors fixed ? If so, can you tell me what the problem was, and what it cost to put right ? I haven't done anything about mine but planning putting the car up for sale soon, so will fix it before I do that. I'm guessing worst case scenarios is a complete new kit @ £260 + something for fitting.

Well I never heard from Jamarqui - I guess he doesn't frequent this forum anymore.
I've finally got my parking sensors working again. I spoke to my Honda dealer who said it was almost certainly going to be a faulty sensor (even though I could feel them all vibrating) and I could either chance buying a set of 4 sensors for £180+vat+ fitting , or play safe with a complete kit, including ECU, for £320+vat+fitting. I already knew I could buy the complete kit online for £260 so didn't go for either option.
Anyway, got a local mechanic friend to strip out the boot trim and check wiring etc - we found nothing wrong but noticed that my 'Honda' parking sensors were actually a Bosch ParkPilot kit. A very helpful chap at Bosch sent me a replacement ECU on loan so that I could try it and see if it worked - it did, so I then knew it was my ECU that was knacked.
Unfortunately Bosch couldn't sell me the loan ECU, so I had to go to a Bosch dealer - my local Bosch dealer (a trade motor factors) was going to be £185+vat however my local Vauxhall garage supplied the exact same ECU for £80+vat - Billy-Bargain!! (I had noticed when I googled ParkPilot that a few Vauxhall forum posts came up - it seems the same system was fitted to many Vectras, Zafiras etc)
I'm so glad they are now working again - I can finally put it up for sale now (anybody want to buy an immaculate, low mileage, FR-V i-ctdi Sport which now has everything working ??!! :D )

Glad to hear that you got it all sorted... it was in reading your posts that put me off getting the Honda parking sensors fitted on my FR-V!
