So got my FRV

Postby cavey76 on Fri Apr 22, 2011 12:40 pm

Hi all, I posted here about a year ago about how my missus was preggers with number 4 and that i wanted an FRV. Well living in NI it isn't that easy as they are like rocking horse guano. I also wanted a petrol as i don't do the miles for diesel. Anyway, it went to the back of my mind as #4 was impending we went out and did the usual hunt round dealers for any old 7 seater of a Saturday morning............and one day there she was.....2.2CDTi, 2007, metallic blue, 50K miles and looking brand new inside. Probably a bit impetuously we put down a deposit there and then.

So had her six months now. Copes brilliantly with 4 kids and allows mum to sit in the rear should baby be irritable and the two boys up front with me. I must say, despite not being a diesel fan, the acceleration on slip roads and over taking when we are down south on the back roads visiting the outlaws is addictive.

If you are in a similar situation, i.e a large young family (4 kids, 5, 4, 2.5 + newborn) the space is ideal. We can still get a double buggy and enough bags jammed in the boot and under feet of the little people for a fortnights holiday. You also forget it is a people carrier as it doesn't feel as ponderous as the Zafira, Touran, et al equivalents.

Quick questions for you more experienced owners. Aircon feels puny and we have an upcoming trip to Devon planned. Should one of those "recharge your aircon" deals at kwikfit or similar do the job?

With the the diesel is there any preventative maintenance that you go through....baring in mind we don't do big miles day to day, i like to get a few miles on her at the weekend and also get the revs nice and high. I am thinking things like oil and filter change, etc. Also was a bit worried at first to see the sign in the Door hinge that said "check the oil regularly, ideally at ever fill" or words to that affect. I have monitored it fortnightly at best but so far no issues.

All the best

Well done!
I check my oil every so often and in 5 years have topped it up once between each yearly service.
My aircon had a re-gas at main dealer earlier this year (same price as KwikFit and better service) and it made the car smell brand new for a while and it is definitely cooler now :)

you could always try and change the pollen filter. If the pollen filter gets to dirty/blocked it can stop air flow into the cabin.

Been a while thought i should update anyway. Since did a holiday to Devon during July and that is when we really noticed the poor performing aircon. Driving on the motorway with windows down was no fun. Anyway, got home and finally got my @rse in gear and bought a couple of aircon filters from ebay. £12 delivered to NI. When i check how to remove the old ones and saw the state of them i was a bit shocked...couple of dead bee's, wasps and a few half alive spiders plus both filters were jet black. Installed the new ones, turned up the aircon as a test and nearly blew my eyes balls out...made the inside of the car like a wind tunnel. Hand't realised quite how badly affected the aircon/fan was by the filters.

So should anyone be looking, ebay for FRV air con filter and you will see them advertised for a tenner.

On a side note the wife is pregnant again.... Means we need a new car. Luckily the Honda is definitely not going but my old golf instead so at the moment looking for either a Kia Sedona or Mitsubishi Grandis. Oh why don't Honda do a 7 seater here. I was in Texas on business a few months back and one of my Richardson based colleagues drove me back to the hotel in a Honda Odyssey...8 seat MPV...brilliant car but just not available here.
