steering weight

Postby blackydog on Thu Jul 22, 2010 2:47 pm

Hi, i have a 56 diesel sport and as a result of "golf elbow" find long journies tiring due to the natural pull to the left from the road camber. I find the steering on my FRV quite a bit heavier than the Scenic i had but prefer the FRV. Is there any difference in steering weight between the diesel and the lighter petrol FRV? Thanks Brian

Hi all, had no replies to this in a year, am i the only one who has experienced excessive pulling to the left (following camber) on an FRV?? Yes have had the tracking checked on "Hunter" and within limits. Don't want to take this to main dealer as it would be like signing a blank cheque. Any suggestions?

I have the 1.7 and that does seem to pull a little to the left. It make a big difference depending what tyres you have fitted and how far they are worn.
When i first got the frv i had 2 worn tyres on the front and noticed it alot. Then put a set of pirelli p6000's on and it went away for a short while but came back when they started to wear a bit thin. By the way I found the pirellis crap and would not recommend.
I then just put on some budget tyres as i only got about 15k out of the pirellis and didn't want to spend big bucks again, and these are the best tyres i've had on the frv so far. 7k on and i don't feel the car pulling and seem much better in the wet. This is purely my exprience of how tyres can make a difference.
As far as power steering weight between petrol and diesel, i would guess the diesel has a slightly more power in the power steering due to the extra weight of a diesel engine, but then again i havn't driven one so might be talking crap!

Mark.

ps thought everyone had left this site!

Not that i'm aware of. This site went down at the end of last year and only came back to life this May. Think everyone gave up trying to look in.
