Going Going Gone!

Well - as I mentioned last week I have had my 06 FR-V CDTi Sport for three years and just under 60k. Longest I have ever kept a car and the only problems I have had with the car are a noisy clutch pedal and an unexpected thirst for front tyres. Not too shabby really when you consider it! Time for a change though so have decided on a Megane Coupe diesel. Always said I'd never buy anything French but have seen a few of these on the road and must admit to having lustful feelings!! Be very interested to see if I get 60k trouble free miles out of it.

Mr Renault was would have offered £9500 but had to come down to £9000 due to the err battered exterior (front wing front bumper back bumper all scratched). I bit his hand off as i was expecting much lower, and the deal is done. They are also doing a 0% over 5 year, 2 years free servicing deal that I was very happy to take advantage of.

Just have to wait for Mr Renault to build it and should have it around Chrimbo. May be sooner though

Interesting to hear what you got from the Dealer for yours (you've seen my recent thread enquiring about that very subject). As you know I'm hoping to get around the same money (or hopefully slightly more :) ) for my 55 model but my problem is that I can't decide what I want to replace it with.
I must admit, the new Megane is a nice looker but I've heard too many stories at work from colleagues with Renaults (albeit older ones) with various troubles. Hopefully the newer ones are better and yours will be under warranty while you have it anyway.
What model Megane did you go for ? What engine does it have ?

I know what you mean about Megans having a bad rep mate of mine calls his the Migrane hah hah.

There are about 4 diesel engines going from about 90hp and 70mpg to 160hp and 45Mpg. I have gone for the 1.9 130Hp "Dynamique" - French for Middle of the range I think. Comes with automaitc lights and wipers card entry though. Extras I went for were parking sensors, sun roof, 17" alloys and "3D-sound" Stereo. It should be good for 55mpg or so. Generally it is electrics you have to watch out for which is why I woudln't have one without a Warranty. Don't think the engine is a new one French diesel engines have a good rep. Also the interior didn't feel as bomb proof as the FR-v still does!!!

Will honestly miss my FR-V though lots of good times/trips and the most reliable car I have owned.

Well - the deed has been done. I am now the proud owner of a Megane Coupe. Very nice indeed if I do say so myself. It was a day day to see the FRV go though.

Look after yours!!

Cheers

Jeff

I've gone the otherway, could only afford the Renault Scenic in 2004. came to cambelt change time after 5 years but only 26K. Cambelt change £450 but "we advise you have the water pump and defazer pulley chabged at the same time as if either of these fail cambelt has to come off again" puts the cost up to £850, car worth £3500. Part exchanged it for a diesel FRV (no cambelt). Happy with it too apart from the tyre roar which i couldn't believe, had local Honda check that out, they say it's normal. Brian

That's interesting. I thought it was only mine with tyre noise. I put it down to the fact it has winter tyres on it (well it did come from Scotland, so I suppose it made sense!).
I did toy with the idea of getting another set of rims with summer tyres, but I didn't want to spend around £500.

Maybe this should be another post now as it's gone off track, but anyway - Peter Brooke did agree there was a whining noise and changed a wheel bearing which took that noise away, so they did make an effort ( even though i bought it from Marshall Peterborough) , but assured me the roar was from the tyres. All 4 are nearly new AVON so i'n not changing them yet. Apparently the older accord had a similar problem with the larger wheels fitted.
I initially thought it may have been a transmission fault but the noise is different on different surfaces, so suppose it rules that out. Would be interesting to know which tyres are quieter. Brian

Auto Express do yearly tyre tests and road noise is part of the test. Sure you could look it up on Google.

EDIT: It's here!
